LET'S TALK ABOUT PURCHASING POWER

Purchasing power is not merely a transactional act; it's a potent force that, when harnessed collectively, can reshape industries and influence societal change. History bears witness to consumer boycotts that resonated beyond cash registers. And today, as conflict, corruption and environmental problems compile, it’s hard to look around at the world and not feel discouraged or even powerless. But every time we open our wallet, it’s a chance to vote with our purchasing power.

Think about it, businesses can’t survive without paying customers. The only power anything has is the attention that we give it.

Consumers today have the ability to demand ethical practices from industries, notably in fast fashion's environmentally destructive realm. Successful boycotts of companies with unethical practices, spurred by environmentally conscious consumers, underscore the potential impact of our collective choices.

Our purchasing power is a ballot cast with every dollar spent, echoing our values and demanding accountability. By supporting sustainable practices and boycotting entities that exploit resources or create injustices, we become architects of change, not merely consumers. It's a call to action embedded in every purchase, a dynamic force that shapes industries, molds corporate ethos, and, ultimately, steers the course of progress.

While some fashion boycotts may not have led to a significant decline in the market share or prominence of certain brands, they often contribute to increased awareness and discussions about ethical and sustainable practices in the fashion industry. The impact of boycotts can be complex, and their success is not solely measured by immediate changes in market share. They can, however, influence companies to reassess their practices and make efforts to address the concerns raised by consumers and activists. The long-term effects of such movements extend beyond immediate market dynamics.

Maybe we can’t directly stop corporations from causing harm to this planet, but we can take a stand by supporting businesses doing good, and avoid businesses that cause harm. Fast fashion, we’re looking at you.

We as consumers hold the power, and it’s time we recognize that collectively, we can make huge waves. So take a stand, support ethical brands, and boycott fast fashion or any business that does anything less than love, care and respect the planet and future generations. Let’s collectively raise our standards, and demand better from the businesses we give money to. We are paying THEM after all, so don’t forget: you got the power.
